Andrew Smith MP presents petition against the redevelopment of the Oxford Stadium site for housing.
The petition, which has well over 2,000 signatures, was presented by Andrew and Ian Sawyer, chair of the Save Oxford Stadium campaign group, to Cllr Bob Price and Cllr Ed Turner, Leader and Deputy Leader of Oxford City Council.
Andrew said: "There is overwhelming opposition, both from local residents and stadium supporters across the County, to this planning application. People really value the stadium activities and facilities and want to see it fully re-open. There is huge public support for getting back speedway and greyhound racing as well as keeping the dance, karting and other activities on site. The site is not zoned for housing, and I am confident that on the merits of the case the City Council will turn down the planning application. If the applicants appeal, we will voice our concerns loud and clear to the planning inspectorate and the government. This is a vital facility, not just for Oxford but the whole County, and we are determined to save it. It is good news that there is serious business interest in buying the site and operating it as a stadium".
