Andrew Smith MP attended a fundraising event for Maggie's cancer care in Oxford
The event was hosted by the Oxford not-for-profit company Nominet. Over the last two years Nominet's generous staff members have raised an impressive £25,000 for the cancer care charity, with fundraising activities ranging from Dragon Boat racing and staging their own Olympic Games to more traditional tea parties and cake sales.
Andrew met with Lesley Cowley the CEO of Nominet and Anna O'Keeffe, Community Fundraiser at Maggie's Oxford, together with staff from both organisations at the event, in order to find about all the work that has gone into the fundraising effort and how the money will be used to provide invaluable emotional, practical and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends.
Andrew welcomed the support by saying: "I'm delighted to see the hard work, ingenuity and generosity of Nominet's staff in raising this money for such a worthy local cause. They should be very proud of their achievement."
If you would like to find out more about Maggie's, they hold a 'Welcome Experience' drop-in session on the first Wednesday of every month at 4.30pm for one hour at the Centre at Churchill Hospital, Old Road, Headington, Oxford.
