On the 30th anniversary of Volunteers' Week Andrew Smith MP has welcomed the enormous contribution that volunteers make. During this week hundreds of events will be taking place across the country to say thank you to the volunteers who make a real difference their communities.

Andrew said: "We are fortunate in Oxford to have so many local people who put voluntary effort into everything from patient support in our hospitals to food banks. National Volunteers' Week is a great opportunity for everyone to celebrate volunteering and to thank volunteers for the incredible contribution they make. I know from speaking with organisations in my constituency what a vital role they play.

"Just last month I met with student volunteers at the Oxford Hub, who have just been given the Queen's Award for Charitable work, to talk about their work including, helping children in local schools, visiting elderly people and providing recreational opportunities for disabled young people. I very much welcome this opportunity to thank them, and everyone who volunteers in Oxford, for all their hard-work and dedication."
