Andrew Supports Action on Climate Change and Poverty
Andrew joined campaigners on Saturday in a “great expression of support” for action on climate change and poverty.
As activists from Christian Aid, Oxfam, and Christian Concern for One World met on Cornmarket Street, Andrew added his support for their cause ahead of the looming Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December.
He said: “This was a great expression of support for action on climate change and global poverty. I congratulate Christian Aid and all the other church and environmental groups who are campaigning so hard to make the Copenhagen summit a success.”
Alarms were set off by the campaigners to emphasise that time is ticking for action to be taken to save the planet, and the public were invited to record video messages to Gordon Brown about climate change.
The event coincided with campaigns in fifty other countries across the world as part of a ‘Stand Up and Take Action’ global initiative.
Andrew also met constituents supporting Oxfam, and representatives of the Quakers at his advice surgery the previous day. They discussed the importance of aid, fair trade and environmental action to ensure the burden of climate change and of measures to tackle it do not affect the poorest people.
