Oxford East MP, Andrew Smith and wife Val, City Councillor for Blackbird Leys, recently opened the new £1m Co-operative Childcare Nursery in Blackbird Leys.

Andrew said:

“This fantastic new facility will provide care for 72 children from the estate, aged between three months and five years. This project is also a great example of sustainable building, with the materials used in construction sourced locally and the employment of electrical voltage reducers, solar panels and sun tubes which provide the nursery with renewable energy”.

Andrew also praised the Midcounties Co-operative, who funded the project, for donating £60,000 to Oxford City Council towards building a new play facility on the estate to replace the old one demolished as part of this development.
