Andrew Smith MP has called for the Lib Dem / Tory government to rethink their devastating cuts to Feed-in Tariffs, warning they could cause thousands of jobs losses, and stop nine out of ten families from cutting their energy bills by installing solar power.

Andrew, who has constituently campaigned for measures to save energy and tackle climate change in homes and communities around the country, said: “I have been contacted by numerous constituents and local businesses who are extremely concerned at the effect that the government’s proposals will have on them.
“I share their concerns. In the last year alone over 100 households in Oxford East have installed solar power. It’s an effective way for people to green their homes and protect themselves from soaring energy bills. But the Government’s plans would exclude nearly nine of ten families in Oxford East constituency from any chance of having solar. The cuts to Feed-in Tariffs also threaten to wipe out the solar industry and destroy thousands of jobs. This is just the latest example of a government which is out of touch, cutting too far and too fast, with no plan for jobs and growth.”
“I have written to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change urging him to rethink the government’s damaging proposals and I shall continue to speak out against this policy which will destroy jobs and damage the environment.“
